I'm back with a new blog, The Elementary Principal. This blog is part of an assignment for my first online class, Using Google to Become a 21st Century Administrator Blog. I have utilized Blogger for a few years now with my faculty and parents for book studies. I have never utilized a blog for communicating with parents and stakeholders. After visiting a few recommended principal blogs I am seriously considering using one for the upcoming school year.
I could use the blog to communicate with parents, teachers, students, and stakeholders. The blogs I reviewed were used in a variety of ways. Some were mainly used for personal information and opinions of the administrators and others were forums for stakeholders with information about school events. I can see some advantages to utilizing this resource. It is a great way to communicate with a school community, modeling technology use, promoting school events, and keeping people up to date in 'real-time'. The disadvantage that concerns me most is will people follow the blog rather than the school website. In our school system, the school website is the main vehicle for information regarding the schools. The other potential disadvantage could be improper use of a blog. I will also have to make sure that the blog fits our system's policies.
